President of Donaghadee Male Voice Choir

Lady Hermon

Message from Choir President Lady Sylvia Hermon May 2023

At this this year’s AGM, held on Monday 29 May 2023, Choir President Lady Sylvia Hermon opened her address by referring to a concert which she and her late husband, Sir Jack Herman, had attended exactly 30 years ago to the day – 29 May 1993. Performing at that concert in the Queen’s Hall, Newtownards was Donaghadee Male Voice Choir with their guest Brendan O’Dowda.  Lady Herman produced a programme from the concert and proceed to identify several current members of the choir who were present at the AGM and who had performed in that concert.

Lady  Hermon paid tribute to members who had passed away during the year, highlighting their contribution over the years and expressed the sense of loss felt by everyone.

Our President also welcomed the nine new members to the choir and expressed the view that this was an indication of a  confident choir with a great future under the leadership of Emma.

“ To say that I am proud of this choir, my choir, is a huge understatement. I can sense a confidence and happiness within the ranks, which together with your positive attitude, bodes well for the future.  All-in-all it has been a good 12 months with a good Chairman, a hard-working committee, and a wonderful MD “

To round off the meeting, all members present were presented with a piece of cake which had been home – baked by Lady H to commemorate the choir’s  90th season.

Warmest good wishes,
Sylvia H.
